Halloween!!!!!!

Pumpkin Patch in Chicago

We caged the monkey

Our extended Family

Our Babies

Adriana has been making such good progress!!! She is truly a Momma's girl!!! Daycare is getting better for her, still cries when I leave but calms and plays in just a few minutes after I leave. The teachers really baby her.

We found out that Adriana will not need any further surgery on her lip or nose. They will look at it again when permanent start to come. Her heart is a different story. She will have open heart surgery in the spring. It all depends on how much weight she puts on in the next few months.

We had a lot of fun at the Lifelink fall get together. We also had a great visit with or extended families (our travel buddies). All the girls changed so much.

Adriana was a Monkey for Halloween, she didn't quite get the whole thing. She liked the decorations, but not smoke machines. One house we went to had the porched decorated so nice so I wanted a picture. I sat her on the step, took a step back, told Brent take the picture quick!!!! Then the smoke machine went off, and Adriana flipped out. She took a nose dive right off the step. Luckily the monkey hood came down over her face and cushioned the fall. She didn't even get a scratch. We were done after that.

Until next time Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get that camera out of my face!!!

Adriana & her Big Brother Scott

Mommy & Me

Sidewalk Chalking

Adriana is doing so much better. She is 19lb 1oz. Happy as she can be. Always on the go, keeping us all on our toes. The pictures above our from her friend Lauren's 3rd birthday party. Adriana had a blast. It was her first social event and she visited with everyone. She even let a couple of people hold her. She is still unsure about strangers, always checking to see were mommy and daddy are.
We have been home for a month now and she is amazing. We have been so blessed, our hearts are over flowing. This is better than any of us expected. Scott and Brandi adore her. Their friends just love her too. Every where we go people gather and ask endless questions.
Today was a disappointing day, we found out she will have open heart surgery sometime in the next year. She has a hole between the upper two chambers of her heart (a mur mur) it will not close on it's own and is common with the cleft lip. So surgery is the only option for her. Recovery will be 4 to 5 day's in the hospital, it's a common procedure and is really safe. At least that's what we were told. They will have to patch the hole because it's too big to stitch closed. I know God will be watching over her touching her with his healing hands. We will just worry about that in 6 months when we go for a follow up from today. Then after that surgery she'll have to have plastic surgery on her cleft gum, lip, and nostril.
She's come so far in the month that we've been home. When we first got her she could barely sit up on her own. Now she is starting to run! The only real issue we have is her eating. She won't eat on her own and she fights us most of the way through each feeding.

This is a little video of what we see when we are trying to feed her. We always try not to laugh, but it's just to cute. Eye Rolls, Peek-A-Boo, and Blowing Kisses Enjoy!!! We sure do.

Home At Last!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Love Bathtime!!!!!

First walk with MaMa & PaPa

I'm to tired to eat anymore PaPa!!!

It's Great to be home!!!!!!! China was interesting, but I'm an American Girl!! Everything was good with the trip, the best being of course our little angel. We only had one little hiccup during the trip and that's when we got home to Chicago to find out our flight to Peoria was cancelled. I really was in no big hurry to get on another plane. I got air sick 2 hours into the flight home and was throwing up the whole flight. Brent had Adriana the whole time. She only slept maybe a half hour. So Brent was really tired driving the rented van home from Chicago. We stopped a couple of times because Brent was falling a sleep. At that time he had been up 32 hours straight. It only took about 3 hours to get home. To all who was at the airport Sorry we missed you!!

Miss Adriana is beginning to walk already. We have only been home for a week and 3 days. She's catching up so fast. Now if we can only get her to eat. She will only eat Watermelon, rice, Cherrios, and Goldfish crackers. Sleeping is coming along really well. She sleeps in her own bed, waking up sometimes crying, but settles herself in just a few minutes. I think she is adjusting very well. We still are not letting anyone but us 4 hold her, because of me and her bonding issue. I think that is going to make strides this week with Brent and the kids back to their normal routine. We will be together by our selves for the next 2 or 3 weeks, then she starts the Daycare. That's going to be the true test for her. She's only going half days so she will be there only 4 hours a day, and somedays it will be less. Brent and I think this is the best place for her to be, it will help her socially and help her catch up to kids her own age. We believe if she hears people her size talking english she will imitate and pick it up faster.

We traveled with 2 other couples, Linda and Joel, Sherri and Curt. We all really hit it off. It was a total surprise to them that we were even there. They were never told there was a third family. Everything happened so fast I guess it slipped the minds of the people of the agency. We plan on getting our girls Adriana, Becca (Linda's and Joel's girl) and Rheann (Sherri and Curt's girl) together for Halloween. I hope for Christmas too, but I know how the holidays can get.

We want these girls to stay close, after all it really is the only Chinese family they have. It is a bond that should never be broke no matter how far away the leave from each other.

We tried to post the Gotcha video with no luck. Sorry!!! Still trying. Will post again soon.

Last post

Saturday the 1st. We took Adriana to her medical checkup. There were three sessions at the medical complex. At the first one they checked her weight, head size, height, and temperature. At the second one they checked her motor skills. And the third one they did a very quick physical. It went really smooth. Then we walked around in the shops by the hotel and a few blocks away. There were at least 200-250 down the street. It's kind of intimidating because of the amount of people and the stares but we made it. We made it to the rooftop pool. Adriana loved it in the pool.

Sunday the 2nd. We went back to the shops around the hotel and the ones a few blocks away for some more souvenirs. Brandi got a massage.

Monday the 3rd. We went to the Guangzhou Zoo for a couple of hours. It was not as good as we thought. Really kind of disturbing on how malnutritioned the animals were. Then we all four took a nap and then ate at the hotel. Had to walk over a huge rat in the road and around all the piss the shop keepers were throwing out into the road.

Tuesday the 4th. We walked around the pearl and jade marketplace and down what we call “Rooster Road” for some souvenir shopping. There must be at least 10,000 stores down the road and in the many many malls.

Wednesday the 5th. We have our last adoption appointment (the visa ceremony). Then more packing.

Thursday the 6th. We will leave back to Hong Kong by bullet train.

Friday the 7th. We finally leave for home. We are more than ready. It is a very different world that we are definitely not used to. Words can't describe what we've seen. It would have to be experienced to understand it. Just today when a group formed around us an older Chinese lady got mad and was yelling at one of the other adoptive mother that is with us because her baby had socks on. We kept together and kept our wits and moved along as quickly as we could. It's been that way a lot. Overall all three families feel like it's been much more of a depressing trip after seeing how things are over here and witnessing the way that over a billion people live. One is very very fortunate to be born in the states and have the opportunities that we have. We were thinking about brining Adriana back here to visit when she turns 16, but we'll have to see how things are at the time. It's not a vacation, it really is an eye opener.

We are scheduled to land in Peoria on Friday the 7th @ 5:36 PM Peoria time (flight number 5939). All are welcome at the airport. The more the better. However with bonding issues, we cannot pass Adriana around. So as long as we hold her everyone can visit her. But the bonding and trust (mostly with Adriana with Missy) is still an issue. But it will work itself out in time. We can't get around a bunch a stranger (to her) and pass her around. We are told not to let other people than us four hold her for a little while. Hope everyone understands but that is the way it has to be for Adriana. Thanks and we will see everyone back at home in a few more days.

We got her

We just got to Gunangjhou last night. Our internet was working a little bit in Hong Kong and in Nanchang, but not this blog site. I still can't view it so hopefully this post works. Our flight from Peoria to Chicago was delayed 1 1/2 hours. So we had to literally run through O'Hare. The plane to Hong Kong was waiting for us. It was a long 15 1/2 hour flight, but very interesting. Our flight path took us over Wisconsin, Canada, Arctic Circle and Ocean (300 miles from the North Pole!), Siberia, Russia, Mongolia, and down through China to Hong Kong. We pretty much just checked in to the hotel on Friday the 24th. Saturday the 25th we explored the Hong Kong Airport and all the 150 shops within it.

Friday the 24th. We got into Hong Kong in the afternoon and checked into the Regal Hotel and just hung out there. We got a single room with two beds.

Saturday the 25th. We hung out and explored the airport shops and hotel.

Sunday morning August 26, 2007. We met both our guides Echo and Mary and the other two couples that are also adopting with us (Joel and Linda & Curt and Sherri). They are really cool and we are going to have a lot of fun with them. We left by plane for Nanchang then went and to checked into the Gloria Grand Hotel. We got joining rooms (much better than the single). We took the hotel bus to the Civil Affairs Building at 8 AM and went up to the 26th floor. We walked into a fairly large old wooden room that had to be at least 110 degrees. It all happened pretty quick, they don't mess around too much over here. The other two families with us got there little girls brought out to them within a few minutes. Then Mary and Echo came over to us and said Adriana is still on her way from the orphanage and it would be another ten minutes. It was really hot, sticky, and uncomfortable in the room. Lots of noise and chaos. When they finally did bring her into the room, she was very very scarred. She was leaned back in the caretakers arms, just frozen. Missy's first words about her was, "Oh my God Brent look how tiny she is!" Brent had no words. She went to Brent right away. She did not cry. Just stayed frozen. She is 26 inches tall and weighs 15 pounds. The other two families both had gotten 9 month olds. They are the same size as Adriana, just a little shorter. We were told that Adriana was very shy and not aggressive at all so when they brought food into the room on a tray she would end up getting the scraps because the others would take it first. We left pretty quick after getting her and went back to the hotel. Adriana attached to Brent like a shadow. He could not put her down or leave her sight. She liked Scott a lot, too. She didn't mind Brandi. She did not like Missy at all. Missy would get within sight and she would start to cry.

Monday the 27th. We went back to the Civil Affairs Building to do some interviews, paperwork, and pictures. We asked questions about her life in the orphanage. They could not tell us much. They did give us her bottle that she used (for what looked like a year with stuff floating in it!) We left there for the Public Affairs building for her passport papers. Then to the police station for her visa application paperwork. Then we all stopped at the Walmart for supplies. That has to be explained in person! Back to the hotel. Adriana slept through the night again (8:15 PM to 6 AM) but she is still cries when laid down or when Missy walks into view. She also really hates our hotel room so we spen most of our hotle time in the hallway with the other families. Right when we walk into the room she puckers up to cry.

Tuesday the 28th. We went to Elephant Park for siteseeing for the day. It was fun and interesting. Missy held Adriana most of the day and it went pretty good until we got back to the hotel. Then it was the same. Better day though.

Wednesday the 29th. We went to the Teng Wang Pavillion for more siteseeing. It was very cool. We saw a dance show. Very interesting. Lots of pictures, too. It was an even better day for all. Adriana and Missy still have issues though but getting better. Adriana can't get enough of Brent. We also walked to the McDonalds. Traffic is a lot different here. You just go. It's like organized chaos. There are cars, buses, vans, people, motorcycles, bicycles, and anything else you can think of all side by side with no real rules. They just go - inches apart from each other. There is not any road rage or nothing it's just the way it is. Absolutely amazing and can't be understood unless witnessed. Adriana was up till 12:30 Am playing fall back and summersaults on the bed with us! It was amazing! She is coming around some.

Thursday the 30th. We all went walking around shopping and stuff. All three families always stay in a group! Our guides say that we are safer than them over here but we don't feel comfortable without them. But halfway through the day our guides left us to go on our own down pedestrian walkway. No motor vehicles. We had a lot of the Chinese people come up and stare and try to talk to us and just want to see the baby. They would say, "Lucky baby" because they know haow she is getting out and going to America. The people are really nice and very friendly. Sometimes to friendly for our taste mostly when big crowds form around us. We asked Mary and Echo about her fear of the room and Missy. They wouldn't outright say it because people don't insult or offend others over here but we gathered that Adriana had an abusive female caretaker that Missy reminded her of. Her feet were also bound during her orphanage time. They bind the feet to make them grow under so they will be very small. They said the strted potty training her but what that means is that they tie her to a hole in the floor for hours until she goes. She is so much samller than we expected a 19 month old to be. Everything we brought for her is too big. And she is still taking the bottle with formula. We also found a lump of something on the back of Adriana's head by her neck. Our guides said it is probably another boil starting (she has what's left of one on her chest). We will go to the medical checkup on Saturday and will ask about it. She is also very congested and coughs quite a bit while indoors. Adriana was again up till 12:30 AM playing and having fun. She eats non-stop. Anything we give her. Cherrios was a life saver in the beginning and then watermelon.

Friday the 31st. We left for Guangzhou a day early! We are really excited about being away from that hotel. Maybe the next one will be better. We arrived in Guangzhou by plane in the early afternoon. We got to the Holiday Inn Shifu and went to our rooms. They are awesome. Really big with lots of extras and glass showers, etc. They are the executive rooms! We could almost live in these things. Best of all Adriana likes it better. There was a little wimper going into the room but then she came around. Also better with Missy. Except in the mornings she has to have Brent. We stayed at the hotel that night and just enjoyed it. Adriana took her first steps with Brandi.

Saturday the 1st. We are going to walk around down in the shops by the hotel. there is at least 200-250 down the street. It's kind of intimidating because of the amount of people and the stares but we'll make it.

We were so excited that we almost forgot to give the most important thanks to God for every single little thing He has done for us and for this to happen!! It's always the easiest thanks to forget to give but yet the very most important.!

We Are in Hong Kong

It took us a little while to get the internet working and we don't know how long or where it will be working so we will post when we can. Here's what we've experienced so far:

We got to Peoria airport at 7:00 AM on Thursday Aug 23rd. Our flight was suppose to leave at 9:24 to Chicago O'Hare. After delays, we ended up leaving Peoria at 11:30 AM. Our flight flight to Hong Kong was scheduled to board at 11:33 AM leave at 12:18 PM. So we landed at O'Hare took a shuttle bus to the other side to our gate, ran for about 10 minutes and got to the gate where the girls at the ticket booth rushed us through with re-assigned seats. We were the last ones on the plane. They upgraded our seats to economy plus that has about 4 more inches of leg room. We had a wall behind our four seats which were together in the middle. The plane sat 3 on each side and four in the middle. We were right next to the wings. The flight took off only a few minutes behind. It was a long flight but went pretty smooth. And suprisingly Missy was the only one sick when we landed, with Brent and Brandi's motion sickness it was a miracle that they weren't sick, too. Our travel path was Chicago, Wisconsin, Canada, Arctic Circle and Arctic Ocean right next to the North Pole, Siberia, Russia, Mongolia, China, to Hong Kong. At one point we noted that we were flying at 39,500 feet at 610 MPH. The outside air temperature was -41 C. It was all very exciting. We actually flew down into some mountains. The temp here is about the same as home, maybe a little warmer and a little stickier. Everybody is real nice, but hard to understand. After we got our hotel and got to the room Missy crashed for the night, Scott followed pretty quick. Brent and Brandi went walking around the airport/hotel and got some Burger King food. It's now Saturday the 25th at 8:15 AM. We're all ready and going to go explore as far as we can without getting lost. Then we'll come back and relax and re-pack our carryon's and regular suitcases for the rest of the week. We have to meet up with the group and our two guides (Echo and Mary) tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM for a 2 hour flight to Nanchang to get breifed and get Adriana at about 3:30 PM here. (2:30 AM yesterday at home). We will have pictures and a video of that, of course. I think we stay in her province for about a week. Don't know how internet will be. If we got internet we'll post stuff. If not it'll come later. Brent already doesn't want to come home!!!! He wants to stay here. Brandi misses Kyle a lot! Thanks to all those who helped in anyway for us to get here!

WE LEAVE THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will post itinerary soon!!!

Friday, August 17, 2007

Travel Date?? Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had wonderful news this morning only to have it taken away!! We were told for sometime that we would travel on our own, only to find out that that is not the case. It seems we could have left for China this Thursday the 23rd, but our travel mates can't make those dates. WHAT IN THE WORLD COULD BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN GETTING YOUR BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, we are very very very upset, because now we won't leave until tentatively the week of September 16th. That is if this family in Florida can get their "arrangements" made! I find it so hard to believe that we have waited this long, only to have people that have nothing to do with our adoption stop us from getting our little girl. I sure hope that they can make it mid September. Right now we really don't care to meet these people, or even see them when we do travel. There just is no excuse, NO EXCUSE, for not being ready!!!!

I hope we can get past this frustration, we would have been there Friday. That right now is just to hard to let go. I pray God will give me strength.

Will post any new imformation when we get it.

No New News

Yet another week without dates. I called Laura to see if our paper work got lost. She said no it was still being reviewed. I asked if it was normal to feel this frustrated. Of course she shares in our frustration. It's all in China's hands. I asked if it normally takes this long? The answer, Yes.

I just can't wait to hold that little Angel. We just want to love her, comfort her, give her the life she deserves. We keep saying God has a plan. I will trust in the Lord!!

First Post

I wish I would have started this blog sooner. It would have been so therapeutic for me. It has been a long year, we were hoping to have Adriana by now. We have had our referral since April 10th. Travel should have been 6 to 8 weeks after. It's been 14 weeks yesterday. I hope to get the call with dates and the iternerary soon.

I'm starting this now so everyone can keep informed of our progress. I'm asked everyday if there is any news!! So now you guys can see for yourselves. Isn't technology great?

My hope is to post the video of when Adriana is put in our arms, it will be one of the best days of our lives and I want everyone to share in our joy. Will post pictures and maybe a video of the nursery as soon as I figure out how to.

I will post as much as possible. Scott and Brandi keep me running. It will be wonderful having a little one in the house again. These teenagers are to independent!!!! I want my babies back!!! I blinked and they are 15 and 13!!! Where did the time go???!! Yes you may be asking Why start all over?? Because I'm 34 and Brent's 35, we are to young to have empty nest syndrome. Also we love kids!!! Now is the time to have another child.
